Don't forget the important ones
I am really pleased to hear about the new features that are coming to 3Dcart. I was sort of getting worried that development has slowed down, but instead it seems that the developers have been quiet about what they are up to.
My two cents:
1. Search engine / price comparison engine submission is critical. While it is often overlooked, I think it is probably one of the most important features of a shopping cart as you can drive traffic to your store with virtually no cost. I would like to see integrations with more services, and reliable and convenient submission. This is one of the areas that the % or revenue carts really focus on that I think is missed because most users do not recognize the value added.
I would also like to see a search campaign builder that takes a combination of keyworks from metadata and keyworks that you enter to form combinations that link to specific URLs for specific products....
2. I think that 3DCart is extending the scope of service that they provide, and I wish that they would focus on tight integrations with class-leading solutions such as Kayako Support Suite so that they could focus on just the features that should be provided by the cart such as comparison shopping integration, etc. In doing this with SEOM, it is the reason I chose 3DCart in the first place.
3. More and more merchants are using mutliple warehouses or drop-ship locations (or a combination of both). I would love to have the ability to specify multiple distribution locations for each product and allow 3dcart to automatically calculate and apply the option that would result in the lowest shipping cost. Ideally you would be able to specify multiple SKUs dependent on location and have them show up as one item in 3DCart - but this might be beyond any short-term scope.
4. I know this is outside of the scope for this release, but shopping cart systems that integrate with eBay are few and far-between - all the good ones use revenue share pricing models that cost far too much money. I am amazed that nobody has recognized the huge opportunity here. I would love to see a partial integration that works with a listing tool and offers a checkout redirect through 3DCart in order to upsell or cross-sell merchandise.
5. I wish that there were some really strong default templates. 3DCart looks OK, but not good, right out of the box. I never understand why content management systems don't spend the resources necessary to make a few examples of just how good a site can look. Consider how much value RocketTheme adds to Joomla because a theme can be installed instantly for less than $100 that looks better than 98% of the sites out there. IMHO, it is the reason that Joomla is successful relative to the Drupal or ExpressionEngine, which I think are better CMSs.
All that said, I am always amazed at the great work being done by this small company. Keep up the good work! I look forward to the update.
