Exclamation Shipping Descrepancies with store cart and UPS?

Hi,

I've been experiencing problems with our shipping calculator in the store where it comes up with a different shipping quote than the UPS calculator, often making us eat the difference.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had problems with the shipping calculator, and what they've done to fix it.

I spoke with tech support recently, and they can't seem to identify the problem.

Anyone?

WebEd,
When it comes to shipping calculation problems, the best thing to do is to submit a support ticket with what items you are looking at, and what you expect the shipping cost to be. So that a test can be done with the same items and see where the rate is coming from. Also UPS/USPS/FEDEX/CAPOST have different types of rates, (retail rates, rates for customers that do daily pickup, and even personalized rates for your company if you ship many packages).

Unless you've done so already, please post a ticket with the items you are testing with, what 3dCart says the rate is and what you think the rate should be, and we'll investigate the differences. This type of issue is going to be hard to troubleshoot without actually looking at the responses back and forth from the shipping api which support technicians can do.

Exclamation Shipping database madness

We have had this problem also. The difference has not been that much in most cases but pretty big in some. One thing to consider here is the fact that you can get different prices on the UPS website depending on what setting you use to calculate the price. If you notice on the UPS website they have two settings "1).Quick time and cost" and "2).Detailed time and cost" neither of which will match your own internal calculations from the UPS Worldship software because that takes into account any special discounts that UPS gives you based on shipping volume etc. . The last thing that needs to be thrown into the mix is the new UPS Dimensional Weight Scam. I call it a scam because it's just another way to charge more for nothing. Example: Most of our boxes fall into this category and our customers now get charged for shipping 38 pounds regardless of the weight of the box because of this and these are not oversized boxes. This is where you can really get in trouble with difference in price. If you look on the UPS website the quick option does not ask for dimensions where as the detailed option does, as does your Worldship software. What we have done to alleviate this problem is add a charge to each individual product that will hopefully make up for all this UPS database madness.
