Canonical URLs not working?

I think either I'm missing something or canonical urls are not working correctly for our site. Here's why...

Paginated Categories, Manufacturers, and By Price pages are all being crawled by Google and appear as separate, unique pages with duplicate title/meta tags.

For example:

Products by Price p 1 url is: /products_byprice_20-1-1.html
inserted in source code is: <link rel="canonical" href="http://www.thewatchprince.com/products_byprice_20-1-1.html" />

Products by Price p 2 url is: /products_byprice_20-1-2.html
inserted in source code is: <link rel="canonical" href="http://www.thewatchprince.com/products_byprice_20-1-2.html" />

Google webmaster tools reports these two pages as having duplicate titles and metatags. Same thing happens with paginated categories and manufacturer product lists.

Isn't that supposed to be fixed with canonical urls turned on? There are several threads discussing this issue, but no real answers. Can anyone explain how I fix this problem? or do I need to contact support?

I am having the same issue. I have hundreds of duplicate content pages. I have spent everyday for over a month now with phone calls, chats, tickets, etc... with 3dcart and could never get a straight answer. All they ever say is that they don't know why Google is indexing those pages and they shouldn't and it shouldn't be effecting rankings. But it is effecting rankings, my warnings on Google say so. I have had it with this issue and 3dcart. It's just wrong and someone needs to step up!

One thing I did to help the issue (it didn't fix it completely but cut down on duplicates a little) was to change all of my pages to only show results on that one pages. So users have this huge scrolling page of categories, sub categories, products, etc... But at least it's only one page now that Google can index. Like I said, it helped a little, I was at over 700 pages of duplicates and maybe now I am at 500 or so.

We too have lost rank since the recent update and find in our google webmaster tools hundreds of duplicate meta tags and titles. Mostly due to Category pages having multiple pages of products instead of just viewing all on one page, and also reviews are being combed separately and also if one product is assigned to multiple categories it is being dubbed as duplicate content. This is ridiculous. Something must be coded wrong in 3dcarts software, or they're not up to date with ecommerce coding standards! I'm mad

I personally implemented the Canonical URLs and dynamic Titles and Meta Tags functionality. So, I can assure that the functionality implemented is based on extensive SEO research.

- By default categories with multiple pages display a different TITLE and a different Meta Tag for description. The system takes care of that.

- Even if a product is assigned to 3 categories, it always uses the exact same URL, so it's the same page, not multiple pages as duplicated content.

- Canonical URL is supposed to be different for each additional page, you still want these to rank, just not as duplicated pages of the 1st page.

- If you would prefer to display ALL products in 1 page for the categories, you can easily do that from the control panel.

Please provide specific examples if you're seeing anything different on your account

I did Jimmy to 3dcart and they saw my examples and don't have a clue why it's happening. I gave extensive examples, I don't need to do that here, they do not work.
