Negative Inventory

Is there a way to prevent a negative number from showing up in my inventory? I have the site configured to allow backorders, but don't necessarily want a negative number displayed for those who have ordered.

have you tried unchecking "Enable Inventory Control" in

settings->general->store settings

No, because I do want it to keep track of inventory, but just default to "0" instead of a negative number

I don't believe it disables inventory; it simply doesn't allow the customer to see your inventory. i think that is what you're looking for.

i think the only other way would be to write a piece of javascript that changes it...or have it custom developed by 3dc...
