Default Site not live, yet it's 'down'?

I must say I'm unhappy about NOT being able to work on my site this wekend. It's not even live yet and it's already 'down'. This is the message I get when trying to access it....

It's been like this since Friday night. I've opened a ticket but won't receive support until Monday. I didn't realize tech support wasn't 24/7 when I signed up.

What would happen if my site was live and went down on a weekend?

Submit a ticket and mark it as critical. This will page tech support. Whenever I've had an issue on the weekend or late at night, tech support has always responded. Typcially, I watch my email for updates. Do you get this message when accessing the admin panel or your site?

When I access the site. Therefore, it makes it extremely hard to actually work on it.

That is a very valuable piece of information. Thank you. I wish this was documented somewhere so I would have known this earlier.

Server monitoring is in place 24/7/365 if a server went down, we would be on it ASAP. In this case a setting in your admin caused the home page to not display correctly. This will surely happen when you first start out and don't know how things work, the best thing to do is to not make too many changes at once, so that you can see what each change does. Same goes with editing the templates, you can bring down your store very easily by messing up the template, always backup the templates prior to making changes .

Do you mean by changing the style and design of the store template? How do I go about 'backing up' a template?

I'm sure at some point I WILL mess things up...lol. I just hope I don't mess it up too bad.

To back up your template.... just ftp your templates to a 'backup' directory on your local machine. You will always have them there and ready to upload if something goes wrong with the copy that you're modifying.
