Default Now they are spamming my review form!

I'm so fed up with this! We had to remove the "Contact Us" form from our web site and just put up a list of our contact information instead, due to the significant number of spam forms that were sent each day. A couple of days of went by, and today I received 4 "new reviews" with just junk written in--just as they used to do with the other form.

My question--is this someone who is just messing with us in particular, or have any of you experienced the same thing? Does anyone have any ideas as to how the form can be modified to prevent this?

I've gotten them too - but not in large quantities. I used to get them on my old site all of the time.

Try this site: http://www.spamcop.net/

If you sign up it will tell you in detail how to report SPAM emails. I don't know if it will help your situation - some type of crawler must be automatically filling in your form.

Have you looked at http://recaptcha.net/

This allows you to add the box with text the user must type in prior to submitting your form.

Hopefully one of these will help.

It would really be useful if we could block this somehow.

Let us know what you find

Here's an idea from a message board - I have not tried it. If you do then please let us know.

Quote:
Create a drop down (<option>) list of subjects instead of a text box. Then make the default value something like "Please choose a subject".
Now have the form processing script return an error message or discard any posts that leave the subject at it's default value or send a subject that is not on the list of options.

Alternatively, for a simple form spam robot, you could use text turing numbers instead of images (captcha is just another form of turing numbers).

Most of these bots are pretty generic, they can't react to anything unexpected... you just have to make it a little bit harder for them and they'll stop.

Thanks, everyone for the suggestions--as soon as I find a way to block them I'll be sure to pass it on.

I get the spam in the reviews. It is usually only one every couple of weeks, so I haven't been too concerned with it.

I get spam on my "Add Your Link" page. Like you expressed, it is very annoying. The spam emails always seem to be focused on prescription drugs somewhere in the string of nonsense characters and words. I have been planning to implement something link Cekman suggested - Recaptcha, but just haven't gotten around to it yet.
