Default Related Products Fix

Hi,

I have a WIDE variety of products in my store and this system ends up giving my customers very random "related" products. From what I've found out from Tech Support currently Related Products are chosen based on the products that were uploaded around the same time as the original product. I don't think that's the case. I think that Related Products are chosen from the "dominant" category (the one that shows up at the top of the product page).

Unfortunately, I have a category that is "All Products" which means my "related" products are coming up very, very inaccurate. For some of my products the dominant category is perfect like "Men's Rings" but for others its just stuck in "All Products". It would be good to have a way to sort these categories when I add products to the backend.

I would recommend that Related Products be chosen based on the category a product is in. i.e. A product in "Men's Rings" should only bring up other items in the category "Men's Rings" and to have the ability to specify one category as the dominant category, or the one that is "most relevant"

I like that I can pick related products, but with 1200 products up now and another 300 going up every week. I just don't have time to manually choose for every product. It would be more helpful if the system would pick based on a more logical system.

Thanks!

Moving from my previous cart the vast majority of 3dcart features were improved over what I had before. One exception was related products. My previous cart actually generated them based on titles and descriptions, and it worked really well. You're right, 3dcart simply pulls them randomly from a category they're in.

you can set some related products, but if you choose two related products for a given item you're only going to see those two. It doesn't select those two first and then populate the rest... So if you set them yourself be prepared to get VERY busy setting all of them for each product.

I agree. It would be nice if there was some logic scripted in to generate truly related products, and if you do select some manually that it would show those first and ALSO continue to generate the rest.

In short: I agree.

I'll vote for this as well.
