Short description value for SEO?

Can anyone tell me if the short description is used in any way for SEO?

by default, it probably doesn't do much. however, with some creative modifications to the listing page html, i'm sure you could change this.

good deal, then leaving spme blank won't hurt i guess. i was concerned that maybe it drove to one of the fields in the auto meta tags and descriptions
