Refresh after selection

I'm sorry for so many questions, but I can't seem to find the answers to some of my smaller issues.

I'm using advanced options to track inventory, but when a customer makes a selection the "in stock" message doesn't refresh. The first option may be in stock, but if they click on the second option (which is not) then back to the first, it shows the out of stock message. How can I get that to refresh each time they click on an option?
