Using Store Language in Custom Fields

Does anyone know if it is possible to reference an entry from Store Language (Settings -> Design -> Store Language) in a Custom Field on a product page?

E.g. Let's say I have created a new field called 'Author' in the Product section and want to put '[Author]' in 'Field 1' under Custom Fields for a product. Is this possible?

I have tried a few things and cannot get it to work. I am guessing that the language tags are converted to text BEFORE the custom fields are pulled in which causes the custom field to show up as [Author] instead of the text I have entered in the Language section of the Admin, but I am not sure.
