  • Issues which are making me Mad or Crazy due to loss in business

    Hello Friends

I purchased Geo trust EV SSL from 3dcart and paid the fees to properly implement on my online store thinking in mind that it will help my website to rank higher in organic search results but everything went just opposite, I am sharing my story with you because of two reasons

    1. First to make you aware if you are planning to buy SSL from 3dcart then think thrice before you go or take the conformation that these issues will be resolved by them

    2. Hoping some 3dcart person will feel pity on us and try to help us out (not sure it will happen) because I got a horrible reply after 14 days escalation with support team
"unfortunately, Being that SEO is outside of our scope of work here in general support, I would have to advise you to get in contact with your you sales representative for a quote on services from our SEO / Marketing team “ if this was not in there scope of work then why they wasted valuable 14 days and we continues loosing our ranking and visits

    A. If we paid extra fees for implementation then 3dcart should have updated robot.txt file too (Google treats http and https as separate identity) so that Google can crawl and properly index our SSL site (image attached) be aware if Google will not index your new website then your website will start loosing your current ranking and your business will suffer, unfortunately mine is suffering and I cant do anything

    B. Both of my websites URLs with http and with https Bone Inlay Furniture | luxury furniture-Bone Inlay Interior Furniture and https://www.boneinlayinteriorfurniture.com are live and if this continues then it will create duplicate content which will be bad for SEO point of view and solution was very simple just old pages of http should be soft redirected to https, I don’t know why 3dcart didn’t did it

    C. We took SEO package in the past so they wrote some articles for good backlinks, they should be changed to https so that we don’t loose the link juice created by blog pages and high PR backlinks, you can do it too, in my case I changed what was in my hand

    D. our Adword account is maintained by 3dcart there also we are having problems although we paid extra for Google Conversion Tracking Installation for GA and solution is not hard just http requests get redirected to https? If so, the gclid is not being passed correctly with the redirection. Changing destination URL's to https will take care of that

In the end I will say you people don’t do the same mistakes what I have done and for 3dcart I want to tell you that we are business persons not a Coding or SEO/ marketing experts that’s why we choose SAAS models like 3dcart so that we can concentrate more on our business strategies and planning and pay for the services we buy from you then how can we expect incomplete implementation and business losses due to it

    Thanks and regards

After you install the SSL, you should only access the checkout pages in https. The rest of the site should be accessed in http.
https, is disallowed by default from being crawled. That is the reason sitemap.xml cannot be accessed in https.
In image 1, it shows that the site you provided to Google starts with https. It should start with http. It is trying to find
https://www.yoursite.com/sitemap.xml which is blocked by robots.txt

    Google should be looking for
    http://www.yoursite.com/sitemap.xml

Your robots.text should look like below:

    1. Go to Marketing >SEO tools >Robots.txt and click edit
The top section should look like this (replace yoursite.com with your domain name)
    Code:
    Sitemap: http://www.yoursite.com/sitemap.xml

    # Disallow all crawlers access to certain pages.
    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /checkout.asp
    Disallow: /add_cart.asp
    Disallow: /view_cart.asp
    Disallow: /error.asp
    Disallow: /shipquote.asp
    Disallow: /rssfeed.asp
    Disallow: /mobile/
The bottom section for SSL should look like this:
    Code:
    # Disallow all crawlers access to all pages. SSL
    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /

      One more thing. You say
Both of my websites URLs with http and with https are LIVE
There is only one site. You can access it with http, or with https. The SSL protocol encrypts the data when you access it through https.

Typically checkout pages are encrypted and hence accessed with https, the contact and account pages are also accessed through https.

I don't see that 3D Cart did anything wrong.

How do you get to your shopping cart after you add items?

          Hello Elightbox

First of all I am thankful to you that you replied on this matter

          1. As per your recommendation i should use only checkout pages of https then what was wrong in using 3dcart shared SSL and as you know these days google is giving HTTPS as a ranking signal in their organic search results so i should take benefit of that and when a customer see a green address bar that brings trust on the store (Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: HTTPS as a ranking signal)

Further you told me 3dcart by default disallow google to crawl secure pages but i want google to crawl my secure pages except checkout and admin pages how can i do that, i got success in submitting sitemap and google accessed https://www.boneinlayinteriorfurniture.com/sitemap.xml

          2. you told ""There is only one site. You can access it with http, or with https"" but as you know google treat http https and even www as separate identities and even ip address which creates duplicate content issues so i just want my http webpage to be soft redirected to https url you can read this How to resolve http vs https duplicate content issues

it can be achieved by doing this --- the way to do this on a Windows server is to create both http and https web servers for the same domain and IP address and with the same home directory. Then do a global redirect of the http site to the https site. Do not check the "exact URL" box. That should allow the query string to pass along with the redirect.

Open Computer Management and expand the web sites. Right click on the http domain and click on Properties. Click on the Home Directory tab. Check "A permanent redirection for this resource. In the redirect field, enter "https://" followed by your domain name.

          3. you didn't addressed 3 & 4 issue regarding backlinks and adwords

          For DeanP
Hello dear sorry i didn't understood what you want to ask and how can you say ""I don't see that 3DCart did anything wrong"" have you seen the 3dcart report image i have attached how my visits and sessions has dropped to less than 40 percent after purchasing the ssl and i paid extra fees to proper implementation and see where i am standing now

          Thanks and regards

The thing is, like you said
I want to tell you that we are business persons not a Coding or SEO/ marketing experts
so my recomendation is keep it simple, and don't get too fancy trying to implement everything you read.
If you want to have everything in https, then you need to disallow everything http in your robots.txt. That might create other issues.

For best results, you should use 3dcart the way it was designed to. Only checkout pages use https.

As to why you need your own SSL Certificate, there are many reasons, one of which is that when someone looks at the certificate itself, it will show your company name as the owner and as being verified, instead of 3dcart. It is about adding confidence.

As to number 3 and 4, you created these problems by using https in your analytics and and Merchant Center. If you are not VERY ADVANCE, keep it simple and operate like the rest of us. Everything http, except Checkout pages that use https. And https is Disallowed from being crawled.

What I mean to say is that, unfortunately, it seems like you created many of these problems yourself due to doing things wrong. And that's okay, because we all make mistakes, but I don't think it's okay to blame 3D Cart for your mistakes. Elightbox has already pointed out several things that you have either misunderstood or acted incorrectly on.
