  • Anybody using Checkout By Amazon?

    Hi All,

I never really looking into it because I'm not a huge fan of giving them even more money then we do, but we had our first customer ask about it today.

From what I can tell it's more like PayPal and Google checkout, so it would go along with your other cc processing options as it's own button.

Anyway what do you guys think about it? It doesn't seem so bad to add yet another way for customers to pay us (just the fees look high), I'm just worried how well it works.

We signed up when it first came out on 3dcart.

There were some issues with the integration that have been fixed.

It does go as another payment method along side your others. Unless you use 1 page checkout, there are some issues with button placement unless you edit your templates.

Like all of the alternate payment methods in 3d (Google, PP Express), CBA bypasses your checkout questions, which can be troublesome for us.

Amazon doesn't pay you until you ship. A lot of our items are custom made to order and this is kind of a pain.

There is no way to edit the expected ship times shown to customers from Amazon, so we can't easily tell them it will be more than 2 days to ship.

Besides those issues, which are somewhat specific to my product line, it seems to work fine and about 10-15% of our orders use it.

    HTH,

    DaveW

The only issue I had in the beginning is the length of time it takes them to pay. Even after you ship it can take them up to two weeks to send the money. They have guidelines that you can check to see when they make the payments quicker. Our payments are much quicker now that we have used them for quite a while.

I think you guys answered everything. I'll give it a try on Monday and see what we think.

One more thing to keep in mind is shipping methods.
          - Amazon uses three methods, standard, 2day, and next day. If you have many shipping methods, you may run into problems, which we did. 3dcart has a check-box that says use 3-dcart shipping methods, but it does not work if you have more than one that would match an Amazon method.
          - Amazon expects you to ship by 30 days otherwise the authorization expires. You cannot charge first and ship later. If you have items that may take longer, CBA would not work. We had to cancel the CBA transaction and have customers pay with another method.
          - If you use Stoneedge Order Manager to download Amazon orders and 3dcart orders, the Amazon orders download twice.
          - If you also sell on Amazon and have shipping methods setup on Amazon, customers will see these methods when reviewing their order on Amazon, and if they are different from you 3dcart shipping methods, which they would be, it might be confusing.

I am not sure if this is any fault but my own, but if you use StoneEdge and 3d with CBA, you need to be very careful that your order status are getting updated correctly. For whatever reason with our setup, it seems like the wind blows funny and the process doesn't work.

The bottom line is that unless your internal system tells 3d to put a tracking number on CBA, you won't get paid. If the order goes over 30 days old, Amazon will automatically cancel the order, even if you shipped it, and you won't get paid. This just happened to me, and if it does, you are reduced to begging the customer to either pay you directly, or contact Amazon and request a re-charge. Not likely to happen.

Once again, this is my fault. There are about 10,000 email messages from Amazon about shipping on time, order going to be cancelled, etc. and I didn't catch that this order had really shipped.

But, if you do business with a special order or made to order model like ours, Amazon may not be the best for you. I am debating turning it off before our busy season, there is no way I will be able to keep up with what orders have shipped when we are busy.

I had this same issue, and it has to do with the shipping date format that StoneEdge passes to 3dcart (which then passes to Amazon) once an order ships.

If you export tracking data from UPS Worldship back to SEOM, the date comes over like 'yyyy-mm-dd'. Amazon requires 'mm-dd-yyyy'. When the tracking data is passed from SEOM to 3dCart, then on to Amazon, the date error gets hung up in the queue and it needs to manually be changed.

Support ended up clearing the Amazon cache for me after changing the format in the trouble order and it [and all subsequent Amazon orders] then updated fine. This is on my to-do list of things to fix via UPS or SEOM.

We shipped an order on Columbus Day, and it was dated the next day since the Postal Service took the holiday. Well, Amazon will not accept tomorrow as the ship date so the confirmation goes in the bit bucket. The order remains unshipped until we paste in the tracking number. Otherwise, it works well.

We signed up for it and so far it's not bad. Somehow I missed the part that the ordered don't show up in 3Dcart, but other then that it's fine.

One annoying thing, we get these 'CBA PostOrder Fulfill' emails from 3D cart like every 10 min.... and now that I typed this out I bet they have a box to switch them off.

What doesn't show up in 3dcart?

I haven't dug up the setting for emails either. The emails come every hour for us, 3 of them. I put them in a folder and just delete once a day. :)

@Spesh: I believe we had the same problem in the beginning. Contact Tech Support, I am pretty sure they were able to help.

The orders. Like if a customer places an order using Amazon checkout the site has no record of it, but it shows up just fine if I check the Amazon site.

I'm guessing it's maybe not suppose to do that?

By using Amazon Payments, it does not go through 3DCart, therefore you will not find it in your order history.

I am pretty sure this is not correct. Our orders that are paid by Amazon show up in the admin panel just like any other order with any other payment type. We use StoneEdge, but I just went into 3d and all of our Amazon orders are in there just like any other.
