  • 3dcart bundled / kit product problem

    Hi,
I submitted a ticket on this but we're trying to go live today and so any help I can get quickly would be greatly appreciated.

I've spent hours today trying to figure out a problem with bundles/kits. I've done and redone the tutorial. It doesn't create a bundle or kit. It creates a product with options that a user has to select. That is not a bundle. A bundle is something I create. It is not something that a customer should be picking options for in order to put it together.

An example of the type of bundle I need is as follows:
(This is just an example) We sell purple oil 3 packets at a time. I need to keep inventory by packet. So I created a product called Purple Oil, assigned my inventory cost to it as a single packet, assigned it a weight for shipping, and put some in inventory.

The customer should never see this item since he can't buy it like this.

The item in the store that the buyer should see is the Purple Oil 3 Pack.

Following the instructions in the tutorial to the letter I end up with a product (Purple Oil 3 pack) that has 4 options - the main or upper level option and then 3 sub options (3dcart calls them option sets), one of which must be selected.

This is not a bundle. Purple Oil 3 pack should be a single item, with no options, that when selected and purchased will subtract 3 packets from inventory and weigh .3 pounds for the shipping calculation.

The bundle should not have an inventory quantity since it should be made up of other items (There is no "PurpleOil 3pack" inventory item.) It's weight should be a combination of the weights of the items in the bundle.

This is NOT what's happening. I have gone through the tutorials, forums, googled, and have not come up with a suitable answer.

I'd appreciate anyone's help in completing this task as soon as possible as the cart is supposed to go live on Monday 5/18.

    Thanks.
    Buck

I am having the same exact problem. My kits only require multiples of the same product (they must be installed in pairs). How can this be accomplished? I don't want customers to have to click a radio button to complete the kit, it should automatically be configured this way with NO options otherwise. The "allow only in multiples" feature won't work in this situation because the same product appears in several categories - some that require the paired installation and some don't. Anyone have a one-click resolution? :D

We do a lot of kitted products and so far have found the only workaround is to allocate the items that you want for kits seperate from the individual items for sale. When you get low on the individual items you have to break down some kits and re-adjust the kit/item inventory. Not doing this wreaks havoc with your inventory counts :(

I'm doing something similar to what you have as a workaround. I created unique parts for my kits and I will receive them into inventory that way. So, a pair of modules will be viewed as a single part from an inventory standpoint, and if I need to, I can break down the kit and adjust stock levels if I need to sell the modules individually.

HA HA HA I got a good laugh when I looked at the date I started this thread and saw that the first response came in now, 1 year 2months later.

@gigahertz6, @markh76 - good to hear from you both. We ended up doing some of what you both describe. It's a kluge using spreadsheets, a lot of manual data entry etc. It's ugly and troublesome and a pain in the neck.
