  • Facebook header

    When I'm in my store's FB page and go to Edit Page and then click on Edit for the 3dcart app, I am able to enter a header.

    According to the documentation I can submit a header image just by entering the URL to that image on our store's server like this

    Code:
    http://www.domain.com/assets/images/header-image.png
    or I can enter some html code like this

    Code:
    <p>some text</p>
    But, based on the testing I have done, I can't combine a header image with some text below it, which is what I would like to be able to do. In other words, like this

    Code:
    <img src="http://www.domain.com/assets/images/header-image.png">
    <p>some text</p>
    The above does not work. The image wrapped in the html tags will not display but the text does. The other way I tried it was to just enter the url for the image, like in the first example, and add some html code below. Like this

    Code:
    http://www.domain.com/assets/images/header-image.png
    <p>some text</p>
    I did not expect this to work and it didn't.

    Am I missing something here? How can I display a header image with some html text right below it? The workaround I am using is to add the text to the header image just below the actual image and then upload it all as an image. However, this does not meet my needs as I can't link to specific text within that image.

    Is there anyway I can do this -- submit both a header image and some html text right below it?

    Thanks a bunch

    Hi Charlie,

    After some testing, I was able to get this to work by using HTML tables for the elements. The table was basically two rows; the top row containing he URL to the header image and the bottom row containing the text I wanted for it.

    Below is an example of the HTML I used:
    (Feel free to edit the parameters to your liking)
    -----
    Code:
    <table width="557" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
    	<tr>
    		<td><img src="[image URL]" alt="" border="0"></td>
    	</tr>
    	<tr>
    		<td>
    			<div align="center">
    				Powered by <a href="http://www.3dcart.com" target="_blank">3dCart</a></div>
    		</td>
    	</tr>
    </table>
    -----

    A couple of notes I discovered when testing this out.

    First, caching on Facebook seems really slow. Sometimes I'd have to refresh the browser a few times to see my changes.

    Secondly, I tested this out on my test Facebook profile page and it worked fine. However to get it to apply to my fan/business page (tied to the same profile login), I actually had to go into that page's Facebook application and "Save" the changes. (even though they were already there from editing the profile settings)

    In any event, I tested this html table trick for both the header and footer and it seems to work.
