  • IE vs ALL other major browsers

    Hello all,

    my yet-to-launch website http://macdimms.3dcartstores.com/ does not display properly in Internet Explorer. The navigation bar is squashed and the border doesn't tightly conform to the content. In all other major browsers, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome, it renders just fine. My target audience is obviously Mac users so IE isn't a major concern, but I'm just worried about those customers possibly using Parallels or Boot Camp (and using Windows and possibly IE). Could anyone tell me some possible solutions to fixing this in IE. I've read so many articles that state that IE doesn't conform to W3C standards and that extra code needs to be in place to compensate, but I am far from being well versed in HTML/CSS. Anyone....?

    Try this in the <head> section of your site. It forces IE8 to renders in the right mode. It needs to go in the frame.html of your site.

    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8">

    IE 8 has a couple of different modes (do a search on the web to get the details) and this seem to make it behave like all other browsers do.

    Good luck!!

      Hi Frederick,

      your input is greatly appreciated. I inserted the code and it fixed the frame from stretching all way to the browser window, but now the alignment of the menus is messed up, it caused some elements to shrink down in size (the boxes where it says "FREE SHIPPING" etc), and the navigation bar is still rendered incorrectly.

      Any other thoughts on how to fix this?

      Thanks,
      Bryon

        Thanks for the tip. It worked for my yet to be launched site. Now my site is behaving in IE8.

        Quick update: For some reason, the tag no longer works. Source code still shows the tag I had added. :mad:

          In another forum post, someone said to try this in your frame.html file:

          <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />

          So maybe if the first one posted doesn't do the trick for your site, possibly this one will??
