  • Page Title Tag and Content

    Merry Christmas all! :D

I have a question about the custom page title tag and content. I'm editing my Gift Registry page and the Contact Us page. I gave each a custom file name (and hit the update links button) and then gave each page a custom page title tag and put page content into each one and saved. I've cleared the cache for the site and browsers yet neither the custom page titles nor the content show up. Are these pages "special" in that the overrides provided in the editor do not have an effect? I'd rather not retain the duplicate title tags both pages are displaying...bad for SEO.

Nevermind....figured out that you have to edit each page in two different sections of the admin... ;)

Not the most efficient way of doing things, but ok.

Does anyone know where you edit the Page Title that shows at the top of the browser window?

The field to change the title tag in the browser window is called "Page Title" or "Title". To edit them see below:

        For most internal pages:

        Settings > Design > Titles & Content
(select 'Edit' for each page you wish to change)

        For extra pages:

Settings > Design > Site Content
(select 'Content' for each page you wish to change)

        For category pages:

        Products > Categories
(select 'Options' for each category you wish to change)

        For product pages:

        Products > View/Edit
(select 'Edit' for each product you wish to change, then 'Meta Tags')

I have all of my categories set to have custom titles in the admin panel, but when I click on my various categories, they still display the same page title as my homepage. Do I have to activate a setting somewhere other than filling out the "page title" field?

You will need to go to Settings>General>Store Modules in the admin and at the bottom click on the "Update File Names" button. This will do the job if I am understanding the problem correctly.

              Hi Mueller,

thanks so much for the rapid response. I followed your instructions but that didn't work. Maybe I am misunderstanding the functionality of this process...I want to title bar to reflect the individual category details - is that what this is supposed to do?

I've tried clearing my browser cache and restarting the browser, even rebooting the machine. Still shows the homepage title bar information.

              Thanks,

Sorry, I missed part of your original post. If you are looking to have a custom title (the part content that shows in the tab of your browser) for the category pages you would fill in the "Title" field on the categories page, not the "Custom File Name" field.

I just tested on a category and without emptying the cache on the server or my browser it showed up immediately.

                  Hi Mueller,

In the "Title" field I have "Apple-MacBook-Intel-DDR3-DDR2-Memory-RAM-Chip-Upgrades.html" but the browser(s) are showing "macdimms.com - The Apple Mac Memory Specialists - Crucial, Samsung, Hynix, Nanya, Micron RAM Chips", which is the title for my homepage...

                    Hi Gigahertz,
Do you want "Apple-MacBook-Intel-DDR3-DDR2-Memory-RAM-Chip-Upgrades.html" to show up in the address bar or the title?

What do you want to show up as the title (in the tab in most browsers)?

What do you want to show up in the address bar (e.g. www.mystore.com/some-text-here.html)?

Check What you have in your frame.html for the title block.

                      You should have : <title>[TITLE] </title>
if you want the title to change dynamically for every page.
This will be populated with what you have in the "Meta Tags" tab for each product : "Title"

What shows on your address bar is what you have in "Custom File Name" field in the Meta Tags tab.

Hope I understood what your are trying to accomplish....

Yes! This worked! I had edited frame.html when I first opened my store and "hard coded" the title, not realizing the effect...

Does anyone know if this helps SEO by having keywords on the individual category pages and product pages?

                        Thanks Elegant for your help,
