  • Customers that aren't added to the customer list

Does anyone have an easy quick way to add customers that purchase but don't set up an actual account to the customer list.

This is so stupid that 3dcart won't allow them to be added. they are in fact customers and should be part of that list even if they don't want to put in a password. What makes it even more stupid is that 3dcart makes up a password when we manually add them to the list!

Any ideas on how to do this quickly and in a somewhat automated way? Doing it manually is taking a lot of time and Gonzalo doesn't get the need for this so 3dcart is never going to change.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

You can make password mandatory so every buyer is now a customer.

When we added customers from our other host we uploaded all the customer info and used the same made up password for these customers and added this to the login page:

Returning Customers (registerd on this new site)

Forgot Your Password? or (old site password reset)

I thought that the forgot your password link sent you an email with the password...

Is it possible to have them reset the password rather than sending the current one via email?

We disabled the guest checkout for this reason, so we didn't have to deal with the customers all day calling about their order statuses. Also this gives customers the chance to create an account and potentially turn them into returning customers as well.:D

Yes the developers had mixed ideas when this page was developed.

The system doesn't reset password their password is sent via email.
There is a feature request to make it a password rest one day.

Till then the template can be changed as we did.

Forgot Your Password? or (old site password reset)
          Email: _________________________
Button reads "Send me my password"
We will send you an email with your password.

Now in the case of the old site password it is indeed a password reset that we created. All other will be emailed there password

So did you randomly generated passwords for the customers in the old site? or did you have a link that directed them to a page to create a new one?

If you went using the second route, how did you go about doing it?

I'm getting ready to migrate our second site and trying to gather as much info as possible.

            Thanks!

If guest checkout is enabled, wouldn't the customer still receive the order shipped email that has the tracking # for shipment?

Also, guests can still submit tickets through the CRM as well right?

I'm getting ready to go live very soon and I'm debating on whether to enable or disable guest checkout.

Yes, they will still receive emails (New order, processing, shipped with the tracking #). However, if they have a typo in their email address, their mailbox is full, or your email simple ends up in their junk mail folder, your customers will miss it. If they want to order from your site again, they will need to fill out their info again too.

As a matter of fact, anyone can send tickets though the CRM, even if they don't have an account with you. If the customer has an account, the CRM tickets will be linked to their account. This can prove useful when following up on past tickets.

This is totally up to you. You can test opening your site with the guest checkout option enabled and see if this gives you too much trouble.

We wanted to keep the customer records for handling returns better, follow up with them with tracking, make changes to their orders, etc.
