    Rss.asp processes the RSS feeds.

    See:

    https://support.3dcart.com/index.php...barticleid=426

    If you would like to disable RSS feeds, you can do so from:

    Settings =>General =>Store Settings

    and

    CHECK : Disable RSS Feeds

      RSS feed is a data feed that people can view.
      You can see them here:
      Code:
      title="Featured Items (RSS 2.0)" href="http://www.your-domain.com/rss.asp?type=home"
      title="Products On Sale (RSS 2.0)" href="http://www.your-domain.com/rss.asp?type=onsale"
      title="New Releases (RSS 2.0)" href="http://www.your-domain.com/rss.asp?type=newreleases"
      title="Best Sellers (RSS 2.0)" href="http://www.your-domain.com/rss.asp?type=bestsellers"
      title="Latest Blog Posts (RSS 2.0)" href="http://www.your-domain.com/rss.asp?type=blog"
      settings>general>store settings (main store settings>Disable RSS Feeds)

      Most will not benefit from these feeds unless you update daily and have a site of much interest.

        Thanks!
        Something is wrong with the bandwidth calculations on our store recently. We may have to close the store 'till support can figure it out. :(

          Gonzolo,

          Could you please look at our store?
          The bandwidth calculations are incorrect.

            What do you mean by incorrect?
            If you are going by the SmarterStats figures, you need to add up a few reports:

            Daily Totals
            +
            Daily Spider
            +
            404/errors, which still generate traffic, and unfortunately not easily visible on Smarter Stats.

            If you like to run your own log analyzer to check against SmarterStats, I can provide you with the server logs. I have checked this myself, and the bandwidth reporting on the store admin is accurate.

            You had 4GB just in spider traffic, that's pretty high, and I think that's were you need to look into perhaps adding some rules to your robots.txt file.

              Here is this years bandwidth report. It is obviously incorrect.
              Any assistance on the 4GB spike appreciated.

              Thanks

                More bandwidth usage could only mean 2 things:

                1) You are using huge images on your home page. And from what i can see you have not made many changes since last month.

                2) You have more visitors. I checked your report from last month vs this month, and there is significantly more visitors from Google, Yahoo, and Bing. (in smarter stats -> Reports-> referrals-> referring sites.

                On the report by IP on smarterstats also you can see 2 ip addresses that are using a large amount of bandwidth (400MB for 1 and close to 300MB for the other), i tried to look them up and they appear to be some international search engines. You could ban those ips if you like.

                Have you seen any major changes on your search engine placement which could be bringing you more visitors than usual?

                  I am trying to find what is using the bandwidth. We will have to close the store if we can't determine that quickly as we are charged bandwidth overages that can add up quickly. Thanks, looks like we will have to start banning ips and international search engines....
                  Also, look at the report above. Does that not appear odd? According to that report we have been down two days this month.

                    Yes, it does appear that you got 2 days of free bandwidth :), but, other than that, it appears that you got more visitors, and the smarterstats report shows it as well. I don't want to give numbers here as its a public forum, but if you look at the # of visitors from Google alone, last month vs this month, you are up by about 30%. So, yeah, if you have more visitors you will have more usage, no question about it.

                      Okay, thanks for your help. It appears, like you said, we had some International Spiders that racked up 4GB bandwidth in one day. We are banning the IP address ranges for several RIPE IP address space....class A abd B allocation blocks.

                        I can't figure this out. I disabled RSS feeds a long time ago. But, under Smarter Stats, /rss.asp is still showing visits. Any ideas?

                          You will have visits as long as the rss.asp file is available in your root directory. But the bandwidth eater is usually the generation and upate of the rss feed.
