  • Changed my Google Feed for new Required Attributes

Just found out in my Google Merchant Center dashboard that my items would "possibly" no longer be included in Google's product search since I was not including a new required attribute in my feed! :(

    Here is the notice:
Note: As of May 3rd, 2011, unique product identifiers are required for all products, except those products in the apparel category and custom made goods. We encourage you to provide unique product identifiers whenever possible. Please note that it is possible that none of your products will appear in Product Search if your product data does not include the required unique product identifiers in all categories, except for the apparel category and custom made goods. Please consult the information in this article for information about the requirement.
So, I immediately corrected my google feed to include the mpn, and, for good measure, also included the weight field as was recommended. Hopefully this will give us a little better positioning in Google Product Search, however, time will tell.
We used the mpn attribute (mfgid alias) since we don't have UPC for all our products. We may update those products with UPC whenever that feature is added to 3dcart. And, the weight field attribute alias is shipping_weight.
    Hope this helps! :)

    Google Base Errors

I've just uploaded our new Google Base feed and received a couple of errors. If anyone could shine some light on them it would be greatly appreciated.
    1. Invalid date time format in attribute: expiration date (45 errors)
    2. Invalid price (45 errors)
    3. Unrecognized attribute: mfgid (45 warnings)

      • - Expiration date leave it blank (google will automatically put it to 30days from the upload date)
      • - Price - Remove $ sign
      • - mfgid - change it to mpn

For the mpn attribute, does anyone have any recommendations for people who doesn't use UPC's and have a inventory level of 1000+?

GM requires at least two of the following: upc/ean/jan, brand, mpn.
If you do not have UPC, have the Brand and the MPN filled. We carry some items that does not have UPC code, we submit the Brand and MPN for those items.

Where does one remove the $ from? I'm looking at the file and I don't see any $ sings? I've also found another error that I'm not sure as to what to do.
            1. Too many column delimiters (352 errors)

The $ sign from any of the price columns on your feed file (if the dollar sign is there) you should remove it. the format should be just 0.00

When you open you feed file on excel if you have empty columns that contains just spaces at the end of the feed remove them by selecting them and "Clear content", this will get rid of the extra columns that are saved on your feed file. Even though the columns looks like they have nothing in them it is a good idea to clear the content in them.

Hope this helps, be happy to help you further should have any questions!

Google base no longer exists - it is now "Google Merchant Center".
Google has been phasing out the "base" and end of May was the last submission.

I'm curious as to what I should put in the Alias section for ID for the google feed.
