  • Should I ship this international order?

    Advice needed please

    I was looking at my Incomplete Orders and noticed an active very large order. However it is international and a new customer.

    I do ship internationally and so far have never had a problem - but most initial orders are small and larger orders are repeat customers.

    So far this order is for over $200 - which is lot for me.

    Do you just ship and hope for the best or would you contact the customer via email? If so - how do you word your inquiry so it is polite?

    The customer is ordering DMC floss - and is pretty much wiping out my entire inventory. This is a loss-leader for me - so if the sale were to fall through (or get contested) - I would be out pretty much the entire amount of the sale.

    Advice? I've never had a sale contested in 10 years - but international orders scare me when they are this high. I would have to immediately reorder most of my inventory for that category.

    They haven't completed the order yet - but have entered their email. I considered contacting them prior to the completion of the order but what would I say???

    where is the order to be shipped to?
    Stay away from NIGERIA :)

    We ship internationally all the time but we do the following checks:
    • if they pass the credit card verification it is usually safe to ship.
    • make sure the Billing and Shipping addresses are the same.
    • Do a google search to see if the address exists.
    • Use 411 of that country to match the name to the address

      The order is to France and has a French name.

      I only allow a few countries to order from my site - and I do have some French customers.

      One thing I need to check on- I'm not even sure I can ship DMC floss to France - there may be restrictions.

      I have cancelled orders before where someone selected an allowed country - then said "Please change the country to Malta" - NOPE!

      I'm not sure what you mean about 411 can you expand - Thanks again.

        If those warning bells are going off, do a little homework:

        1. Check to see if the IP address matches the general area of origin.
        2. Do a WHOIS search if they enter a company name.
        3. Send an email saying something like "For your protection, we need verification on all orders over $XXX" and then see if you get a reply.

        It's better to cancel/void/refund an order rather than lose money or products you cannot afford to lose.

          For example on 411.com you can put in an address or a phone number and lookup who it belongs to. Other countries have directory listings as such that you can do a research about your buyer.

                Not a good idea - If it is a phone that is used by "thieves" they might answer and actually say yes send the goods!

                Calling them doesn't usually work unless the address matches the phone number provided and given they speak English or Cekman speaks French
