  • How do you control length of comments to blog posts?

    Fellow 3D users:

    Having blog comment length cut off people's responses. Is there a way to control that?

    Hm, interesting. When you view the comments in the back end administrative area are they still cut off? If so there probably isn't anything you can do without custom programming from 3DCart.

      Yes, they are also cut off. There has to be some way to control them.

        You should open a support ticket and ask, but it looks like 3DCart is limiting the comment to 500 characters.

            Not able to change...

            Here is the response from 3DCart:

            Unfortunately the character limit for the blog comments is ASP controlled and can not be modified. Please feel free to contact support if you should have any further questions

            Looks like 500 char is it.

              I was concerned about upsetting review posters and decided to limit the text for the comment box. It involves editing blog.html I used this site as the basis for the change:

              How to Limit the Number of Characters in a Textarea or Text Field

              Changed this code in blog.html:
              <tr>
              <td align="right" valign="top" class="item">[blog_comments-body]&nbsp;</td>
              <td align="left"><textarea cols=60 rows=8 name="blog_comment_comment" class="txtareaStyle"></textarea></td>
              </tr>

              To this code:
              <tr>
              <td align="right" valign="top" class="item">[blog_comments-body]&nbsp;</td>
              <td align="left"><textarea cols=60 rows=8 name="blog_comment_comment" class="txtareaStyle" onKeyDown="limitText(this.form.blog_comment_commen t,this.form.countdown,500);"onKeyUp="limitText(thi s.form.blog_comment_comment,this.form.countdown,50 0);"></textarea>
              <br><font size="1">(Maximum characters: 500)<br>You have <input readonly type="text" name="countdown" size="3" value="500"> characters left.</font></td>
              </tr>

              Also had to add this script:
              <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
              function limitText(limitField, limitCount, limitNum) {
              if (limitField.value.length > limitNum) {
              limitField.value = limitField.value.substring(0, limitNum);
              } else {
              limitCount.value = limitNum - limitField.value.length;
              }
              }
              </script>

              Everything seems to work well. Does anyone know if the same limitation exists for product reviews?
