  • Doctype question

    All,

    During the course of fixing an ongoing problem with the mobile template, 3dcart Support suggested that my doctype needed to be changed to "transitional", using this code:

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

    Previously it was:

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

    This was "suggested" to be, but no one at TS can tell me if there is an optimum doctype, what it is, or WHY it is. Does anyone have any info?

    Site is atomic-moto dot com.

    There is a ton of info on doctypes if you google it and there is no one RIGHT answer. Why don't you just change the code and see if it fixes your problem?

      doctype

      Yes, there are a lot of doctypes. Switching to transitional does make sense. This particular choice is best cross platform IMHO. It does require a higher standard of coding and more reliance on stylesheets, but everyone should be going in that direction anyway. Learn xhtml and you'll be in good shape.
