  • Getting a validation error I can't figure out

    Hi All,

    On our site Welcome to Project Ride - Sample Slogan I'm getting some validation errors that I can't seem to fix.

    The W3C Markup Validation Service

    It's currently telling me:

    Character Encoding mismatch!

    The character encoding specified in the HTTP header (iso-8859-1) is different from the value in the <meta> element (utf-8). I will use the value from the HTTP header (iso-8859-1) for this validation.

    Here is the doctype and header we have (it's a German site)

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "">
    <html xmlns="" lang="de" xml:lang="de">
    <meta name="language" content="de" />
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="de_DE" />
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />
    What am I doing wrong?

    I looked around and it seems like that's a server error, so I switch it back to '<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />' and it seems to work ok. I'm just not sure if that's the correct charset for a site in German.
