  • Olark Chat Thingey

    This is a dumb question...:)

We use Olark Chat on our website: Welcome to SPS and Solotime!

It has the persistent popup thing in the lower right corner.

I want to add another one of those in order to setup a product selection helper for some of our more complex custom products.

My question - what is that thing called? (or how do I code one?)

    Thanks,

    DaveW

These are often called modals. There are a variety of ways to code them using jquery, javascript, css and html. 3dcart uses some modals so you could mimic the sort of thing they do with the Q & A or reviews popup and use the jquery resources they're already loading on the html5 templates. I'm not sure how to do it on page load but here's a starting point.

Sometimes starting with someone else's "plug-in" is a lot easier than trying to code things yourself.

Do you install olark code in a global header, footer or is it necessary to put in a template?

Answered my own question by actually looking at a competitive product. You edit the frame template and the chat appears to work across all pages.
