  • How-to tip. Add image and name links to your store e-mails

    The new e-mail templates are nice, however some don't do much to bring the customer back to the store as they don't have item links, and no thumbnails.
    Also, the Merchant cannot just click to go see the item page, to answer a product question for example. You have to go to your store and search for the item!

    So here is how to do add a product image, and links back to the item.

    Go to Settings > Design >e-mails and edit the appropriate e-mail (This works in product related e-mails)

    Link Item Name:
    Code:
    <a href="[store_url]/_p_[catalogid].html">[name]</a>

    Add thumbnail with a link:
    Code:
    <!--START: thumbnail--><a href="[store_url]/product.asp?itemid=[catalogid]">
    <img alt="Image" src="[store_url]/[thumbnail]" style="border:0;"></a>
    <!--END: thumbnail-->

    Example: in the New Review: Merchant, this is how the product section will look like:
    Code:
    <p style="color: #333; font-family: 'Helvetica', 'Arial', sans-serif; font-weight: normal; text-align: left; line-height: 17px; font-size: 12px; margin: 0 0 10px; padding: 0;" align="left">
                                    <!--START: thumbnail--><a href="[store_url]/product.asp?itemid=[catalogid]">
                                    <img alt="Image" src="[store_url]/[thumbnail]" style="border:0;" /></a>
                                    <!--END: thumbnail--><br />
                                   <strong>Product: <a href="[store_url]/_p_[catalogid].html">[name]</a></strong><br /><strong>Headline:</strong> [short_review]<br /><strong>Email:</strong> [user_email]<br /><strong>Name:</strong> [user_name]<br /><strong>Location:</strong> [user_city]<br /><strong>Review:</strong> [long_review]<br /><strong>Rating:</strong> [rating]<br /><strong>IP Address:</strong> [userip]<br /></p>

    I'm new to 3dcart, so my question may seem very basic. Did these features exist in the old email templates? If so, someone dropped the ball when designing the new ones.

      Hi elightbox can you advise which emails you are referring to? I just want to confirm and if it needs to be addressed, I would like to ensure that it is the correct email. Thanks!

        Most of my e-mails are modified so I can't go and check. But off the top of my head, all the Product Question e-mails, and the review e-mails (New Review : Merchant, and Review approved: customer) need this modification.
        I also think the items on the Order Notification e-mails are not linked to the product page, and can also use this modification.

        I always want to make it as easy as possible for customers to come back to the store.

          Hi elightbox, I see what you are referring to. The email itself may not contain the items listed. The email itself contains a link to the review that contains all of that useful information for your review The review email for the order status itself will contain the item thumbnail but no links. You are free to modify these emails as you have from your last response.

          If you have difficulties making these changes, you can speak with your sales account manager and have them provide you with a quote on the cost to add this information to the templates / emails if you would like any information or links that are currently not showing to show. You can also drop the suggestion to have this added to a future update by going to https://3dcart.uservoice.com. Please note that if you submit it to the user voice portal, we cannot guarantee that it will be implemented, however it's always worth a shot!

          To my knowledge the email templates have not changed much other than becoming responsive, which that seems to have become the industry standard.

          Hope this helps! Have a great day!
