  • Are Featured Products a Death Trap for sales?

I was thinking about this today....are featured product a bad idea on some cases?
Take for example my "Ladies" page https://www.islandjay.com/ladies
You can clearly see links at the top for short sleeve, long sleeve, etc.
Below that are the Featured Products.
Could a potential shopping, look at this one page and assume that this is all I have for Ladies... thus NOT click any other sub category links?

I have seen other site use this space to ad certain product and specials, but not in a format that make it look like a typical product category.
    Example...http://www.tommybahama.com/TBG/Women.jsp

Thoughts or am I over thinking it?

If you think that's the case, have you considered making less items featured? If there were only four item, for example, I would definitely not think that you only had four items available.

I have the same idea. Quite a while ago I read that featured categories are better than individual products, but I can no longer find the source.

I am applying a slider to a new design to link to categories or brands instead of items. Don't know if I will be able to determine if it is better.
