  • HTTPS - Message received from GOOGLE Help!

I received this email from Google. My site hasn't been switched to HTTPS, however, I noticed when I am at the "checkout" page, it switches to HTTPS. Thoughts? Am I OK?

Starting October 2017, Chrome (version 62) will show a “NOT SECURE” warning when users enter text in a form on an HTTP page, and for all HTTP pages in Incognito mode.

The following URLs on your site include text input fields (such as < input type="text" > or < input type="email" >) that will trigger the new Chrome warning. Review these examples to see where these warnings will appear, so that you can take action to help protect users’ data. This list is not exhaustive.

The new warning is part of a long term plan to mark all pages served over HTTP as “not secure”.
Here’s how to fix this problem:

    Migrate to HTTPS

To prevent the “Not Secure” notification from appearing when Chrome users visit your site, only collect user input data on pages served using HTTPS.

Thanks for the information. Do you know if it's ok just to have HTTPS as is during the checkout mode? I'd prefer not to switch over completely to the entire store if just during checkout is sufficient.

I had heard that https on checkout would be ok, but I would think eventually, you will be dinged for not be totally https.

HTTPS on checkout should be considered required. You want to get the rest of your website running through HTTPS as quickly and efficiently as you can though. That support article is a good guide, but it doesn't really tell you how to fix any errors you may encounter after you switch over.

Most users are probably safe to just go ahead and change their store's secure URL like the guide says.

Would I need to do redirects from the http to https URL one by one? 3dcart said all my URLS will change to HTTPS once I make the switch, but I was told before that unless each url, including images, are redirected from HTTP to HTTPS, I will lose ranking.
