Again, our purpose is to cultivate a positive learning environment for our merchants rather than platform in which to express grievances.

  • Ship method variable?

Is there a way to display just the shipping method for the order (without the carrier) on order confirmations and emails? For example, the [oshipmethod] code will display "UPS - Ground Shipping" but we would rather just display "Ground Shipping". We are using UPS for the calculations, but depending on the distributor the order may actually ship FedEx or a combination of UPS/FedEx so we would like to avoid confusion for the customer. The [OPTION-DESCRIPTION] variable does not seem to work outside of the shipping calculator in the cart or shipping selection in Checkout.

Under shipping methods you can change the caption. It will still show UPS - (whatever caption you choose). Perhaps you could have it show UPS - (FED EX) changing the caption to say FED EX? There may a more efficient way to do this, but I am not sure.

Only way to do what you are wanting is to get custom coding done. That's what we have had to do for one of our websites.

Thanks for suggestions. Was hoping for an easier way since the carrier and ship method variables are already separated in other places such as the calculator. I was considering just using javascript to strip the carrier out, but don't think this can work in the emails. I do use the captions to change the name already, but don't want to add in FedEx there too as that might lead to further confusion. At least the way it is now with saying UPS would be right about half the time. Just wish there was more control on the final display.

Maybe put UPS - or other carrier at our discretion?

You can edit the UPS service names and put "FedEx" in front of each one. So the emails should look like "UPS - FedEx Ground Shipping".

He said that would not work for him, unfortunately.

I do have it stated in our shipping terms that choice of carrier is not available and it may be shipped by another method with the same transit time. So I will see how that goes for now until a better solution presents itself.
