  • Googles new mobile site speed requirements

Does anyone know when 3dcart plans to upgrade the mobile platform to meet googles new requirements for mobile search priority that started July 1st.

I got a call a few weeks back from sales trying to sell me on a new design for this so I wouldn't hold my breath for a freebie :-)

"sites using responsive web design or dynamic serving are generally set for mobile-first indexing"

Hmm. If they want their customers to stay around I hope it is implemented soon. Many other ecommerce sites have this implemented already. We have all worked way to hard on our SEO to get it ignored because we are not fully Google mobile compatible

The 3dcart mobile platform will more than likely never be updated considering it is terribly archaic to current responsive design standards. Unless you have a decade old non-html5 template and are using the deprecated mobile module, you should not be concerned. If you have do have a decade old non responsive design you should definitely be upgrading since you would be lacking crawl priority since April, 2015.

Google already notes for standard responsive web design. Responsive web design - Your site adjusts for screen size.
No change. The mobile version is the same as the desktop version.

My understanding is that this new google pronouncement is not about responsive design - that was something that they made a big deal of a few years ago. THIS new pronouncement is about load time - site speed. Even though our site has a very nice responsive design and looks and formats nicely on mobile, it's often slow to load and routinely scores very poorly on "yslow."

We've been told several times, there's nothing we can do about the issues raised by yslow.

Plug us (or your site) into gtmetrix.com to see for yourself.

JustPoppin I prefer pingdom tools much much more than gtmetrix. That will show you everything in order and the long load time files that are causing main speed issues without having to hunt for it.

@thecardesigner is right about our legacy dedicated mobile store solution, that was deprecated when we launched responsive html5 templates a couple years ago.

But more recently we launched our CORE Template Engine, this is the update you're referring to as far as Google's Mobile-First algorithm and page speed changes. Core was introduced with version 8, you can see the details here https://blog.3dcart.com/powerful-web...plating-engine and we have been launching FREE Core Themes in our theme store https://themes.3dcart.com/Core-Themes.html

You should also have AMP enabled for your product pages since this has a great impact on mobile performance https://blog.3dcart.com/the-complete...r-online-store

There is much more to page speed than just the template, and I recommend using Google's Lighthouse chrome extension to test your sites, https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...nmjammfjpmpbjk this can get you a lot of details regarding performance, mobile optimization, seo and more.

We have also started working on accessibility improvements and progressive web apps for our Core templates, so there will be more on this coming later this year.
