Posting Rules
This forum was created to help 3dcart users share tips on getting the best out of the service, offer knowledge and experiences about e-commerce in general, and to promote a positive environment in which our merchants can request/dispense advice regarding best practices.

The forum was not created for 3dcart users to submit requests for customer support. Any support related thread will be removed and a support ticket will be placed on your behalf. If you have technical difficulties please visit http://support.3dcart.com.

The 3dcart forum is also not intended to be a medium in which to express dissatisfaction about 3dcart's service, policies or its management and staff. Threads of this nature will also be removed from the forum. If a support issue with your 3dcart store was not resolved in a satisfactory manner; or if you feel that a particular 3dcart offering/policy is not to your liking, please let us know by emailing [email protected] so we can address your concerns directly.

Again, our purpose is to cultivate a positive learning environment for our merchants rather than platform in which to express grievances.

Very Important Rules:
* Never give away your store administration login/password in this forum.

Should you need technical help, please let 3dcart staff help.
Also, please be aware that 3dcart staff will NEVER need to ask for your 3dcart related passwords.

General Rules:
* While debate and discussion are acceptable, we will never tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks or inflammatory posts. Our decision is final in these matters.
* Please refrain from posting meaningless threads, one word (or short) nonsensical posts, or similar postings.
* Multiple or repeated posting in order to increase your post count is not allowed.
* Advertising, spamming and trolling is not allowed. This includes using the forum email and Private message system to spam other members.

  • PayPal Refund

    Tried to use the new PayPal refund feature last night - got an error message that "You don't have permission to do this"

    Has anyone used this successfully. I keep getting the same error -- opened a support session and they referred me to PayPal support for something "I didn't have configured right" -- not sure how I'm supposed to edit the API between 3dCart and PayPal.

    I'm thinking either this new feature is not configured properly or it doesn't work with legacy 3dcart plans.

      wanted to bump this up and would like a response from someone at 3dcart -- Why put a feature in that does not work - or does not explain how to use? Support is telling me that there is some sort of time out issue or I don't have the API with Paypal set up correctly. ???

        No, we wouldn't put a feature that doesn't work. If you google that error you'll see its tied to your paypal account. While non of the google threads reference 3dcart, in other commerce platforms, looks like if you re-authenticate your paypal credentials (ie remove and re-add the gateway), that might do the trick. If you can't figure it out, place a support ticket, it will get on the developers eyes, and they can ping Paypal and figure out why it isn't working for you...

          Thanks -- but I've had a ticket open for this for some time. Never tried the re-authentication, but will. Would this be tied to the fact that I have a legacy plan?

            Nope, that doesn't affect any communications with third party APIs...if it wasn't supported on your store version, the button just wouldn't be there.

            Can i have that ticket #? Maybe i can have a developer take another look,

                Not sure why this information is not included in the KB article, but PayPal support was able to help me with the issue:

                When performing the steps however, there are a bunch of options on the Permissions screen that I'm not sure how they would affect normal PayPal Express processing. I would have through that 3dcart would already have third-party API access, but apparently not.

                I'm trying to get 3dCart Support to point out which boxes should be checked. If anyone else has done this, maybe you can help?

                  I feel like Lou Costello in "Who's on First" -- if you haven't heard of it -- Google it - ti's the best routine of all time.

                  1. So I report this issue in September, after it comes out in version 8.2 since it doesn't work. Support tells me that I need to contact my payment processor if I have trouble refunding a credit card.
                  2. I say, no PayPal Express - -the new refund feature. "Oh, we'll pass that along to our Development Team"
                  3. A month goes by and I ask to check on the ticket. Timely response - "If you have trouble refunding a credit card, please contact your payment processor." ARRRGH
                  4. No, PayPal Express. "Oh, we'll pass that along to our Development Team"
                  5. Development team says check with PayPal support, it's their error. PayPal Support says to follow instructions to allow third-party use of API -- thought 3dCart would have permission already, but who knows?
                  6. A whole host of boxes/options at PayPal are listed -- I don't know which ones to check, so I email the list to 3dCart support for clarification.
                  7. Get an email today saying that PayPal Express refunds were enabled with Version 8.2 (i'm on 8.3), if I have it, then no permissions are needed, simply follow the KB article and issue the refund! No problems here.

                    That's step 1, setting up your paypal account, part of the guide asks you to give access to the API.

                    My guess is that you did this long ago, before the API access was a thing, anyway, if you follow the steps, it says to CHECK ALL BOXES on the api permission, but, if you don't want to, just read what the boxes say, one specifically says REFUND, and yes, that's the one that gives access to refund, if you don't want to check all of the other ones, check that one only but it might cause issues.

                      Thank you Gonzalo Gil -- support just sent me there without any instructions on what boxes to check -- this information should be added to the KB article -- I'm assuming it was written assuming that PayPal Express was set up using this step and apparently did so years ago. I'm surprised then that 3dCart has permission to perform all those other functions without having those boxes checked.
