  • Google Index Error Help Please

I need to know if these errors are normal, and if I need to change anything. In webmaster tools I go to Fetch as Google Bot, and then I use the submit all urls to index feature. Then I go to crawl errors to get the following info I have questions on:

    1. URLs: Not found ‎(1,592)‎ most of these are pages that are either our site before we switched to 3dcart, or pages of items we no longer sell.

    2. Restricted by robots.txt ‎(1,478)‎ Most of these are shopping cart pages.

    3. Soft 404s ‎(28)‎ These arrecommendcomend a friend pages.

    4. Unreachable ‎(1)‎ Threcommendrecomend a friend page.

    5. Mobile CHTML URLs: Not found ‎(2)‎ both pages from our old site.

    6. Mobile WML/XHTMLNot found ‎(1)‎ Old site again I think.

When we first moved to 3dcart I do not think we did everything correct as most people do when they switch servers as all we did was just change our dns we did not do anything else. However this was all at least 4-6 months ago, so I had someone tell me at this point it should not matter, so I wanted to make sure the errors we are reciving are correct, and nothing we need to fix. I thank you in advance for any help you may be able to give.

I'm not sure that you haven't answered your own question. Based on your description of the errors there doesn't seem to be a problem.

I would be asking how many pages submitted vs. number of pages indexed.

Just a quick question for you - Why do you not submit a sitemap?

      1. Fix this problem using your 301 redirects.
      2. This is normal.
      3. Exclude Recommend pages using your robots.txt.
      4. Same as #3
      5. Use 301 redirects to redirect customers to your new site.
      6. Use 301 redirects to redirect customers to your new site.

Is this only for old customers, and if I do not redirect thouse old pages will it affect our google rankings?

What about items we no longer carry, and there is no page to redirect too at least not for that item?

Same thing for categories we no longer have? For the items and categories I have just been trying to redirect them to the cloest match if there is not a close match then I redirect to the homepage. Does this sound like the right thing to do?

I did 301 redirects for 1500+ in problem 1, but now it says I have over 13,000+ not found?

HAHA! Searching for info about 301 Redirects and found this thread. All of piaf's links to KnowledgeBase articles go to the KB 404 page because Support never created 301 redirects when they switched platforms. There's a perfect example of why 301 Redirects are so important! :-)
