  • Massive Drop in Traffic

I moved my store from another cart to 3dcart and I did a lot of 301 redirects, but I have still seen more than a 50% drop in traffic over the past month.

Where should I be looking to figure out where this is happening? Is there any way to access server logs for my 3dcart store?

Suggestions to work on is using Xenu to check for bad links. And Google Webmaster Tools to look for errors. And Google Analytics gives me a general feel.

    Thanks in advance!

It's normal to see a significant drop when you move from one cart to another, no matter how good you plan it. The trick is planning well enough so the drop is temporary. 301's is just one of many things that should be done. But there's no way around even simple things like IP changes affecting your organic rankings.

What other type of things should be done?

Would I get my traffic back if I moved back to my old cart?

          Moving and Traffic

NO! Google seems to penalize sites for moving, so moving twice would NOT help! Send an email campaign notifying your customers that you have moved and invite them to check out your "new" site. Write a blog article about your move. Include a Tweet and FB announcement. Offer an incentive to drop by your site. Also, keep up with redirects in Google Webmaster Tools.

My best advice is get an SEO consultant. Way too many things to discuss here. You won't see it jump back overnight at this point, so just do the things you're supposed to do and it will eventually come back.

              Richey,

Not sure if you're still having issues but since I know where you came from, I might be able to offer a bit more help in understanding what happened.

You know how to reach me!

              Thanks,
              Erik

                Richey,

I'd be happy to take a look at this for you as well. If you want to private message me your url, I can use some of the tools I have here to see if anything doesn't look right.

                  traffic drop

have you fixed all your internal cross links and are all your images populating with the new directory structure? If you have a lot of broken internal links you will be providing a poor "search experience" for the searcher per google

                    Drop In Traffic/Move

I too have just moved to 3dcart from being on another location for 9 years.
Do you still have to do 301 redirects even though there are many items that are no longer available? Our items are vintage and mostly one of a kind.

We were enjoying being organically number one for our products for many years, until last Dec and earlier this year where we saw a massive instant drop in our traffic (over 40%) we did find out that the host had moved servers to another company and they appeared to have throttled our traffic.
This was confirmed by many customers complaining not being able to get into our website and also our paid business edition search engine (freefind) was being blocked.

Thanks for any advice regarding the 301 redirects, we did do the category 301 redirects and have a 404 redirect page.

                      301s

Personally I'm playing it safe and have 20,000 301's in place - Google wants to serve up the best possible experience and any 404's don't help. aboyt once a month I go into WMT download the 404's and upload them to the 3dcart 301'a in the dash board

I finally figured out it was Panda, that hit while I was in the middle of the move for a while. It was frustrating not knowing what was causing the issue. So many choices!

Competitors, the move, Google PLA's going from free to paid, or Panda/Penguin?
