  • Thousands of errors in webmaster tools, I have no Idea

    I am very new to the SEO stuff. I have no clue what this means or what needs fixed or set. I am not used to dealing with this stuff because as bad as big commerce was this stuff just always seemed to be taken care of and working. Here is a screen shot of the errors in webmaster tools. http://snag.gy/wJrl6.jpg

    I have lost pretty much all our traffic and revenue since joining 3dcart and if it does not get any better in the next month I will likely have to move on to shopify which i can not really afford time wise right now. but we have not had this kind of month even in the first month we launched on BC. I am not really wanting to have to mess with every damn setting and custom code things thats why I signed up here I was told it was pretty much setup out of the box. I am no developer or know much about the programing so its all foreign to me where to fix it.
    can anyone brake this down like im a 10 year old ?

    Thank you

    Jon

    Jon,

    In the image you linked it shows that your product pages are missing microdata for "best or worst [review] rating." This is NOT affecting your traffic. I looked up the top item on your list... it doesn't have any reviews. Of course it doesn't have a best or worst review: it doesn't have any reviews.

    The code on 3dcart isn't wrong from what I can see:
    HTML Code:
    <div class="totalrating" itemprop="aggregateRating" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/AggregateRating">
    If you experienced a drop since your move, then my guess is that your URLs are different and that you've lost backlinks in the move. Do you have an Analytics account? Do you know where traffic was coming from before the transition and where it's coming from now?

    In webmaster tools, also make sure there are no "Manual Actions" or "Crawl Errors." Those would be a MUCH bigger deal and need to be dealt with immediately.

      I have my review section setup like this:

      HTML Code:
      <!--START: totalrating-->
              <span class="ow-stars">
                <span><img src="assets/images/star[review_average].png" alt="[review_average] stars"></span>
                <span><span>[review_average]</span> out of 5 stars</span>
              </span>

              <!--START: create_first_review-->
              <span class="ow-reviews">
                <span>no reviews yet</span>
                <span><a class="ow-writereview" href="review.asp?action=newReview&catalogid=[catalogid]">write a review <i class="icon-pencil" data-icon="e608" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span>
              </span>
              <!--END: create_first_review-->
              <!--START: create_review_link-->
              <span class="ow-reviews" itemprop="aggregateRating" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/AggregateRating">
                <meta itemprop="worstRating" content="1" />
                <meta itemprop="ratingValue" content="[review_average]" />
                <meta itemprop="bestRating" content="5" />
                <meta itemprop="reviewCount" content="[review_count]" />
                <span><a href="#ow-reviews-jump">read reviews ([review_count])</a></span>
                <span><a class="ow-writereview" href="review.asp?action=newReview&catalogid=[catalogid]">write a review <i class="icon-pencil" data-icon="e608" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span>
              </span>
              <!--END: create_review_link-->
                  <!--END: totalrating-->

      The meta tags between <!--START: create_review_link--> and <!--END: create_review_link--> took care of the best/worst values for my microdata.

      You'll also notice that there isn't any microdata between <!--START: create_first_review--> and <!--END: create_first_review--> . This is because if there isn't a review on the product there won't be any microdata to send. If the tags are empty Google thinks it's an error. Hope this helps!

        I kind of was left out to dry on the 301 redirect setup. 3dcart orginally agreed to handle them to sell me the migration, but the sales rep just told me that to land the sale I think. The upper level tol me the 301 redirects were for me to handle. I really only managed to get around 200 of the 301s in place until the other day when I figured out how to do them in bulk 100 or so at a time fairly quickly. I tried to get all my top pages done, I could not get support to help me figure out how to get them done in excel i guess it really was not their place to, but after paying them and getting the treatment i did to start with I figured the least they could do is give me a how to or show me on the first 50-100. the tech did one single example in excel and he actually did it wrong so I gave up until yesterday and finally learned how to work them out in excel.

        I really do not get most of this stuff. I am no where near tech savy or understand alot of the programing behind it all. I have been trying to learn, but my time has been scarce lately.

          I find the knowledge base to be very helpful most of the time. Are you familiar with it? Just in case you're not here's a link: https://support.3dcart.com/Knowledge...-301-redirects

            I got a handle on them finally. I can knock out them out fast now. I am about to out source it to a Virtual assistant now that I have a work flow for it done. If i had dual screens at home it would be a lot faster.

              ProRetail old thread, but where would I find that HTML code for the reviews? Can I just add that code you have in there to mine and fix this issue?

              is there any way to get google to start showing reviews we do have on the products we have reviews? or do they have to be a third party review source?

                I wrote my templates from scratch and they are heavily customized. I do not recommend copying and pasting my code into your templates. You don't need a third party review system, though. We are using the built in reviews 3dcart provides.

                I'm afraid to offer any specific advice without looking at your template, but you may be able to get a good idea of what to do by comparing my code with yours. Specifically the <!--START: create_review_link--> section.
