  • Rotating banner recommendations?

    I am looking for a flash rotating banner solution for the home page of my site, does anyone have any recommendations?

  • #2
    When you say rotating, do you mean actually rotating (like a globe), or that the banner image changes every once in a while?

      I mean the banner changes every once in a while. Like the 3dcart homepage.

      I found one here: http://www.flashcomponents.net/compo...tator_xml.html

      You can see I implemented it on two of my sites:

      www.microfibertech.com
      www.cleanfloorstore.com

      But I am afraid that the files are too large and the load time is too long.

      What do you think?

        I'd not actually use flash, I'd go with a javascript solution. That will help you be more mobile friendly.

        On our website: www.tshirtlaundry.com we use a script called fadeSlideShow that works really well.

          +1 on the steering away from Flash. I've got a couple client sites that are asking me to convert from them from flash because of the compatibility issues.

              Clint,

              I'm looking to add something like that to my website. Can you help with this? I have about 790px wide of space to work with, and would like to put in a rotating banner to promote products, similar to yours or this one here: http://jqueryglobe.com/labs/feature_list/

              Can you assist with this? Either the design or installation...

              thank you!

              Josh

                use this code. every few seconds it changes when the page is refreshed. if javascript isn't enabled it loads default banner. doesn't use flash.

                <NOSCRIPT>
                <CENTER><IMG SRC="../assets/images/banner_4.jpg" BORDER=0 ALT=""></CENTER>
                </NOSCRIPT>

                <script language="JavaScript">
                <!--
                i=0;
                var ads = new Object();
                ads[i++] = '<CENTER><IMG SRC="../assets/images/banner_2.jpg" BORDER=0 ALT=""></CENTER>';
                ads[i++] = '<CENTER><IMG SRC="../assets/images/banner_3.jpg" BORDER=0 ALT=""></CENTER>';
                ads[i++] = '<CENTER><IMG SRC="../assets/images/banner_4.jpg" BORDER=0 ALT=""></CENTER>';
                ads[i++] = '<CENTER><IMG SRC="../assets/images/banner_5.jpg" BORDER=0 ALT=""></CENTER>';
                ads[i++] = '<CENTER><IMG SRC="../assets/images/banner_6.jpg" BORDER=0 ALT=""></CENTER>';
                ads[i++] = '<CENTER><IMG SRC="../assets/images/banner_7.jpg" BORDER=0 ALT=""></CENTER>';
                ads[i++] = '<CENTER><IMG SRC="../assets/images/banner_8.jpg" BORDER=0 ALT=""></CENTER>';
                ads[i++] = '<CENTER><IMG SRC="../assets/images/banner_9.jpg" BORDER=0 ALT=""></CENTER>';
                ads[i++] = '<CENTER><IMG SRC="../assets/images/banner_10.jpg" BORDER=0 ALT=""></CENTER>';
                ads.length = i;
                dat = new Date();
                dat = (dat.getTime()+"").charAt(8);
                if (dat.length == 1)
                ad_num = dat%ads.length;
                else
                ad_num = 0;
                document.write(ads[ad_num]);
                // -->
                </script>

                  Great thank you! Do I just drop that in the homepage banner section? Will it automatically rotate them or only when the page is refreshed? Your note wasn't clear about that. Thank you again for your help!

                    I'd like to convert my 3dcart designed flash banner to a javascript banner like this. This code is inside of a table.

                    <td><script type="text/javascript" src="swfobject.js"></script>
                    <div align="center">
                    <div id="flashcontent">
                    <script type="text/javascript">
                    var so = new SWFObject("/banner.swf", "mymovie", "561", "367", "9");
                    so.addVariable("xmlPath", "/data.xml?="+new Date().getTime());
                    so.addParam("menu", "false");
                    so.addParam("wmode", "transparent");
                    so.write("flashcontent");
                    </script>
                    </div>
                    </div></td>

                    Do I just do this?

                    <td>
                    <div align="center">
                    <NOSCRIPT>
                    <CENTER><IMG SRC="../assets/images/banner_4.jpg" BORDER=0 ALT=""></CENTER>
                    </NOSCRIPT>

                      I have it in my homepage and not a side banner or footer. the image will change when you refresh the browser.

                        This isn't quite what I was going for; I wanted it to change/rotate automatically instead of on refresh.

                        I did figure out how to install a jquery slider, so I have it set up pretty close to how I wanted it. Check out www.dealmonger.com to see the slider. If anyone has any questions about installation or anything, let me know!

                        Thanks,

                        Josh
