  • Need opinion/critique/advice on checkout design

I'm in the process of updating/tweaking my checkout design, first with new buttons. I'm using the 4 page checkout, and just finished the step 1 last night with new Back/Next/Update cart buttons.

I'm concerned that the eye moves to the update cart button first instead of the next button, and also that we might not need the back button, since it essentially does the same as the update cart button.

Can you guys go add a product to my cart and begin the checkout process and offer any suggestions or critique on the button placement & design?

    Store is www.dealmonger.com

    Thank you!

    Josh

PS- If you see anything you want to buy, send me a PM and I'll hook you up w/ a coupon code. :D

I think it looks good, although that your concerns are valid. My eye instantly went to the "Update Cart" button in checkout-step1.

I recently re-did my own checkout process and I did not use a "Back" button, and used a much more subtle "update cart" link..

      Steven,

I like what you did there. I think i'll implement a similar button design; it is much cleaner and the customer workflow is more focused and forced. Thank you for showing this.

How did you get the beta store up? I'd love to have a testing environment so I'm not working on live code while testing.

      Thank you,
      Josh

That's my only 3DCart site. The non-beta store is another platform. I'm going to switch over the first week of 2011.
AFAIK there is no way to do a testing platform short of a second 3DC account.

OK I made some additional changes to checkout step 1. It should hopefully all fit above the fold and be easy enough for even the newest customer. Any thoughts on this newest update to step 1?

          Thanks,

          Josh

Looks good. I like the signin block being on the right, I might steal that.

Did you design the checkout steps icons at the top yourself? I like that too.

You have a problem with your Update Cart button. The mouse-over graphic is entirely different than the normal graphic. I think the smaller mouse-over version is more appropriate.

The checkout steps icon at the top I did myself in Illustrator with a few free icons I found online. I can't take credit for the idea though; I stole it from another 3DCart user, KarensCookies.net

Can you clear your cache and try the Update Cart button again? It's working for me now; the mouseover and normal graphic are the same small size, just a different image.

              Thanks,

              Josh

Yeah, the refresh fixed the button. Looks good.

The update cart button didn't work for me. Is there a reason you have it there?
