  • Showing Off: Custom Public Wishlist

Hi everyone... I really like the new feature of sharing public wish list... however I streamlined the template a little, and I wanted to show off! ;)

David's Wishlist | NM Tea Co

First, I did not like the big old nasty link that 3dcart creates for sharing... so I have some Javascript turn it into a bit.ly link!

Also I custom wrote the share buttons so that they give a bit more info when your sharing something (well for twitter and facebook anyway, I cant figure out how to change the google plus button).

There are similar changes to the making wishlist pages, but you wont be able to see that unless you create an account on our site.

I think the most interesting implication of this feature is that I will be able to make wish-lists myself of products that I think go together... like "Beginners Tea Pack" and share it out to my customers, who can in-turn share it themselves.

As always, if anyone wants to know how something is done, just ask, and ill try to explain with code examples the best I can.

Looks like I have an error in the code!

      Thanks for pointing it out.

Added benefit of using bit.ly i did not think about:

Using bit.ly to generate the short url has the added benefit of adding analytics to the link. So I can see that 40 (3 from Canada) people looked at my wishlist.

How did you even get the ability to change them from private to public? That option isnt showing for my customers even though it is checked in the admin section.

Are you asking how you can see the "share links" on the public wish list?

              Or

Are you saying that people who are logged into their accounts are not able to switch their "private" lists to "public"?

People who logged in were not able to change from private to public, even though the feature was enabled. Support resolved it for me.
