  • Sub Category Question

    Can somebody tell me how to do this? I am trying to get my sub categories to show as a table and not this: https://www.pack-secure.com/Open-Top-_c_9.html

    ******

    I am not much of a coder, but came up with a basic table for what I want, but I am not sure where to proceed from here.

    Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

    BASIC CODING TO HOPEFULLY give you all an idea of what I am trying to accomplish. I am trying to get it to look something like when you go to product>sorting>pick sub category, but where the table has a working link to buy from that spot.

    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html>
    <head>
    <style type="text/css">
    #products
    {
    font-family:"Trebuchet MS", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
    width:100%;
    border-collapse:collapse;
    }
    #products td, #products th
    {
    font-size:1em;
    border:1px solid #98bf21;
    padding:3px 7px 2px 7px;
    }
    #products th
    {
    font-size:1.1em;
    text-align:left;
    padding-top:5px;
    padding-bottom:4px;
    background-color:#A7C942;
    color:#ffffff;
    }
    #products tr.alt td
    {
    color:#000000;
    background-color:#EAF2D3;
    }
    </style>
    </head>

    <body>
    <table id="products">
    <tr>
    <th>ID</th>
    <th>Image</th>
    <th>Product Name</th>
    <th>Price</th>
    <th>Add To Cart</th>
    </tr>
    tr class="even">
    <td class="even"><a href="product.asp?itemid=[catalogid]">[name]</a></td>
    <td class="even"><img src="thumbnail.asp?file=[THUMBNAIL]&maxx=150&maxy=0" alt="[name]" border="0" /></td>
    <td class="even">[name]</td>
    <td class="even">[ITEMPRICE]</td>
    <td class="even"><a href="add_cart.asp?quick=1&item_id=[catalogid]">[category_buyitlink]</a></td>
    </tr>
    </table>
    </body>
    </html>

    It's really hard to just look at your code and visualize what you think it should look like. If you have an example of what it would look like that would be far better.

      just on glance, class "even" isnt even defined in your css. not sure where thats coming from. i agree with cbsteven. stick up an image of what you want it to look like and it will probably be easier to get from point a to point b

        Something like this, but where the sorting numbers is an add to card and the part number is clickable to go to the individual product.

        I know my coding is bad, but I tried. :(

          It's not that your coding is bad, it's just that most people can't simply look at a block of code and visualize what it looks like on a web page, unless they are some kind of savant.

          This is definitely possible to do but it would take an hour or two of work. I can do this at a reasonable consulting rate. If you are interested then PM me.

          What I would suggest is that you make a test category with test products, and then make a new copy of your category template file that is used only by that category. That way you can experiment with it without messing up how your live products work. Then you can start tinkering with it and try to get it how you want. This might take you a few days but it'd be free and you would probably learn a lot about HTML/CSS in the process.

              You should be able to use the category_1.html as a starting point for this. So from PRODUCTS > CATEGORIES, edit the specific category, then change the "Template / Category Page" to STYLE 2, the "Product Columns / Category General Items" to 1 and the "Display Type / Category General Products" to LISTING.

                    There are an infinite number of things you could do. I'd start here:
                    CSS Styling Tables

                              I will try that and hope it works, then I will be able to happily kick myself.

                              Happily kicking myself now, thanks. I cannot believe I forgot that easy obvious step.
