Posting Rules
This forum was created to help 3dcart users share tips on getting the best out of the service, offer knowledge and experiences about e-commerce in general, and to promote a positive environment in which our merchants can request/dispense advice regarding best practices.

The forum was not created for 3dcart users to submit requests for customer support. Any support related thread will be removed and a support ticket will be placed on your behalf. If you have technical difficulties please visit http://support.3dcart.com.

The 3dcart forum is also not intended to be a medium in which to express dissatisfaction about 3dcart's service, policies or its management and staff. Threads of this nature will also be removed from the forum. If a support issue with your 3dcart store was not resolved in a satisfactory manner; or if you feel that a particular 3dcart offering/policy is not to your liking, please let us know by emailing [email protected] so we can address your concerns directly.

Again, our purpose is to cultivate a positive learning environment for our merchants rather than platform in which to express grievances.

Very Important Rules:
* Never give away your store administration login/password in this forum.

Should you need technical help, please let 3dcart staff help.
Also, please be aware that 3dcart staff will NEVER need to ask for your 3dcart related passwords.

  • Bots adding items to cart.

I have the common disallows for robot txt, but we are getting dozens of add to carts a day from:

    Google
    Apple
    Bing
    Amazon

Does anyone have this issue or have found a solution, I have sent in a ticket but 3dcart seems to think its our issue. I find it hard to believe that a bot adding an item to cart is not a serious scripting error inside 3dcart templates.

We have had this issue for a number of years.Similarly, we have had, at times, a number of bot like visits from certain ip ranges. We responded by ip blocking, and sometimes, blocking complete ip ranges. This is not an optimal solution because there may be potential customers within those ip ranges. We have also had bots gain access to pages that are turned off in the admin. Again, we blocked the ip ranges. These bots distort google analytics stats and smarter stats by producing high bounce rates. Smarter Stats is even more problematic because 3dCart category pages are not recorded and counted Smarter Stats. This is troubling because Smarter Stats reads web logs--all visits to the site should be recorded.

Did you have any issues with warnings from google and such about not being able to scan your site on feeds? I still feel this is a serious scripting issue inside 3dcart. A bot should not be able to ad an item to cart - in my opinion if a bot can do that then they can do much more nefarious things!

We have not had these warnings.

For a quite some time, bots have been able to add items to carts. It is relatively easy for a programmer to automate the steps. In fact, there are legitimate automated shopping bots. These bots actually make real purchases for their owners or clients. There are web sites that allow this as a part of their business model. But if these cart bots,or the others we mentioned, are not wanted, there needs to be protection at the host level.

We've had about 400 Not Completed carts since Wednesday or Thursday due to Google Bots adding items to a shopping cart about every 20 seconds.

We tried blocking ip addresses in the past, but had warnings from Google that it couldn't scan our sitemap.

How are you able identify that it is a Google bot?

We can tell by the frequency of the abandoned carts. Also you can click on the view details and it will give you the ip information

nslookup the ip. If its a legit google bot it will show either google.com or googlebot.com

This again really needs to be handled. If you block IPs then we get google warnings on our feeds. A bot should not be allowed to add an item to the cart - this started since the last couple of updates and its a real issue that needs to be corrected in the cart script! 3dcart HELLO!

Are you using the 3dCart's Google Shopping app?
