  • Change main image based on option selected in CORE theme

I have searched through a lot of this forum to see if I can find how to change the main image on a product page to match the selected option and so far I have only found instructions in html5 themes.

We sell fishing tackle. Many lures come in different colors. As our customer selects the color of lure they would like, I would like the main image picture to change as well. I tried dropdown image option but the pictures are so small its laughable and practically useless.

3DCart says they don't have a way to assist me unless I pay for custom programming. I think this is a feature that should be automatically included but that's me on my soapbox.

I will take any solutions anyone can offer at this point.

    Thank you

I would recommend contacting Shaun at thecartdesigner.com to see if he can do something. He does good work and has pretty reasonable pricing.

Thank you. I will check him out but I'm hoping someone can point me in the right the direction first. I know some basic HTML coding but I think this involves a script of some sort and that is where I get stuck.

Hey, where did you find the instructions for html5 themes? That might be adapted. I'm also curious. As a temporary solution, I added a jquery ui widget to show the colors in the dropdown but that's not exactly what I want. You can check that here: https://www.bloomsbyheinau.com/luxur...-bloomed-roses

Here are the instructions to get this done in HTML5 themes. https://support.3dcart.com/knowledge...the-main-image

I have pretty much given myself a crash course in javascript and I think I have it narrowed down to the actual function that changes the picture in HTML5 themes. Now, just need to find the time to experiment. If I can get it to work. I will place it here.

Oh, I see what they're doing. I also have an idea for how to get this working, in a bit different way. I'll post the code once I'll have it integrated.

Either way, if one of us can figure it out, I know it will help out a lot of people. Like I said, this should be standard feature with all plans.

Hi kompanigroup, what you did is effective. Great job!! Did you create the widget, or purchase it?

And I agree with 10-4 Tackle... it should be a default function for the image to change when the color is selected. It would involved somehow attaching the image to the color choice in the product page, but it certainly seems doable on the part of the talented developers with 3dcart!

Update: I read more around the forum and learned about the DropImage feature in the Options. It did what kompanigroup accomplished with his widget by putting a mini-thumbnail of the image to the right of the color choice. It doesn't change the main image like the hold HTML method apparently did, but at least it's something in the meantime. https://support.3dcart.com/Knowledge...ge-option-type

This thread was very helpful to me. Thanks guys!! :)
