  • Store Search - Outside Companies - Why?

So we broke down and paid to use an outside company for our store search. (Doofinder) Our customers are very pleased with the results and call volume has gone down a good bit of people trying to "find" items as a result. My question here is as follows: Why are we having to use an outside company for this type of functionality? It seems that search within 3D should be robust enough to do the same thing we are paying an outside company $800 a year to do. I would much prefer to pay those "functionality" dollars direct to 3D. Why doesn't 3D offer the same store search functionality that is being offered by outside companies?

What are the issues you run into that the existing search didn't work for you/your customers? Have you tried the new Advanced Search? (Although this is on the $229 plan)

Can you post or private message me your web address? I tried the advanced search on 3D and am not liking it. I tried to reach out to Doofinder on several occasions, but never received a response.

      Has their response time improved?

Pack Secure Have you tried contacting fusionbot? Very responsive! Smaller company so customer service still exists.

Agree 100% with Elimax. I would happily pay more on our plan if I can eliminate the 3rd party search we use.

We used Fusion Bot a few years ago. Didn't really like it very much.

GonzaloGil It is not very robust at all. Very basic and not much more useful than the standard search. I really like the features in Doofinder and would have used their service, except for the poor communications.

We sell auto parts www.expedition-imports.com You can take a look at the doofinder search, as well as the 3d search as that is still operational. Enter the Search term will bring up the doofinder search results (don't hit return), hit return and it will bring up the 3d search. We tried the 3d advanced search and the rendering of the category facets was horrible. You can see how doofinder renders when you do a search on something such as "oil filter". Doofinder will return 32 results, 3d search returns 109 results. The doofinder results are what the customer actually wants to see.

Literally took about 20 minutes to do the initial install and have it up and running and I am not a tech guy at all.

The areas that doofinder does really well is things such as speed of results, synonyms, excluded results, etc. Example type in "sparkplug" - doofinder returns all of the spark plugs on our site, 3d returns nothing. Type in "Master clinder" - doofinder returns all the master cylinders on my site, 3d returns nothing. We have had HUGE compliments on the new site and more importantly the search. Really the doofinder search takes into account what your customers are likely to type.

One area that doofinder does not do well currently is rendering partial part number searches. Example I have sku numbers that start with 404997XXXX....if I type the 404997 doofinder does not return anything useful......3d search returns all SKU's that start with 404997.

Please don't take this wrong as I am a fan of 3d, hence why I would much prefer to pay them to get the kind of search an outside company is providing. Cheers

One other note on the doofinder customer support. I did not get any support until I signed up for the free month. (Costs nothing, doesn't require a credit card.) Within 24-48 hours I received a number of communications, an account rep, etc., etc. I believe the company is out of the UK, but not completely sure. Once I started testing they were very good with giving me instructions on some custom fields to add to my data feed to eliminate their search showing my items that were "not for sale."

@Elimax This is exactly what we need to improve the solution, real life examples, i will look into this and see what we can do to improve the advanced search. I really appreciate it, any other examples/feedback from anyone else will also be appreciated and you can count on us working to improve the product. It might be hard to match 1:1 functionality to a software company that focuses on this day and night, but, we can surely improve things, we just need to get good feedback, examples.

GonzaloGil we also use DooFinder (in the absence of a 3dCart Solution) it provides us the ability to load our Google Product feed into it.

                          Features we like:
-Customizable Search with broad match terms
-Weighted search based on past customers
-Phrase matching for non-products (Contact us, phone, email, etc) takes them to our CRM page
-Banners for various search terms which allow us to promote certain products based on search
-Analytics which show us how well they are performing
-Suggested items from past search results tell us what our customers are looking for that we don't have

Feel free to play around with it here: www.thetokenshop.com

                          Thanks
