  • Mega Help Needed! Product Images not showing

    Hey Gang,

My site is: Buy Museum Replicas.com

My problem is this, my manufacturer only provides an excel sheet with image links for the products, but not does provide a bulk photograph file for me to upload and host my own site.

The problem is my product detail pages, do NOT show the product image unless the link to the image is clicked, at which point it shows the image no problem. The site shows thumbnails of the products without a problem as well.

I submitted a support ticket, but was told that the only way to show the main product image on my product detail page is to upload the image to my server...well I have over 890 products! To manually save each image from the manufacturer's site and upload it is not practical!

Does anyone know how I can go up about editing my product page template so that it CAN display linked images from the manufacturer's site WITHOUT having to be clicked (it must be possible since thumbnail images of the products work without a problem)

    Thanks guys!!

Just wondering if the full path of the image couldn't be referenced in one of the product's custom fields? Would it not be possible then to modify a product listing template to call the custom field for the main image source?

I dunno... just thinking out loud.

Might wanna open a new ticket and ask (again) for some options. It might require some custom coding, but I would think a there's a solution for this type of scenario.

"Might wanna open a new ticket"

      Why?

"I submitted a support ticket, but was told that the only way to show the main product image on my product detail page is to upload the image to my server" was the response and ticket closed.

My original ticket was to general support, I just submitted a new ticket to the design section regarding what file needs to be edited in order to have the images show up when linked to another site.

Hopefully they can provide an answer I can use

I'll keep you guys posted, but if any of you have any ideas on how to do it please let me know :)

The software needs the images to be on the server. There is really no way around it. You can trick it if you want (enter full http link to image on the software), but, at some point you will run into issues, ie, if a customer goes to the https portion of your store and you are pulling images from an http:// site they will get a security warning.

If you have alot of images to pull there is tons of software out there to help. here is a free one:

          http://www.httrack.com/

It will spider pages and pull the images for you.

Oh wow Gonzalo I never thought of something like that!

I'll try it out right now, thanks :)

See? I never thought about the https issue. It all makes sense when people smarter than me get involved... I can see clearly now.

              Why?

"I submitted a support ticket, but was told that the only way to show the main product image on my product detail page is to upload the image to my server" was the response and ticket closed.
I have NEVER submitted a ticket to support and not received an answer. Now, the answer hasn't always been the one I wanted or expected, but has always been timely and accurate.

These guys know their product inside and out and will always shoot straight with their answers. Often there is a workaround. Sometimes custom programming can suit a given application. Sometimes there is a better way to achieve the desired results than I ever imagined! If I don't submit a ticket to the gang, they'll never know I'm having an issue or need assistance. They not psycho... I mean psychic!

Gonzalo's suggestion worked out perfectly, images are all now hosted my server (which is a bit more comforting anyway in case the manufacturer's site ever had problems)

                Cheers guys!
